Lucas Winter on Entanglement in Superradiance
March 24, 2026

The Pohl group at TU Wien hosted a Qnnect seminar with Lucas Winter from the Nunnenkamp group (University of Vienna).
In his talk, „Extensive Entanglement in Rydberg Blockaded Superradiance“, Lucas showed how a well-known collective effect — superradiance, where many atoms emit light together in a sudden burst — can be turned into a powerful resource for generating quantum entanglement. The key ingredient: Rydberg blockade, a mechanism that prevents neighboring atoms from being excited at the same time. Combining the two opens a fast route to preparing highly correlated quantum states, with possible realizations in existing experimental platforms such as atom arrays coupled to optical cavities.
Thanks to Lucas for the great talk and to everyone who joined the discussion!
